Playing their first of two sets, Metallica were the band everyone was waiting to see. With Myles Kennedy’s dynamic vocals and Mark Tremonti’s huge riffs the band were the perfect warm up for what was coming next. Playing a varied setlist that missed a number of their crowd favourites, the band didn’t disappoint even if the setlist did feature newer songs more than you’d expect. The eleven song set felt too short with the both the crowd and band loving every minute of it, but it isn’t too long to wait to see them again with the band headlining Wembley Arena in December.Īlter Bridge sub-headlined, which felt like an audition for a future headlining spot. Lzzy Hale walks out on stage and belts out a snippet of ‘Raise Your Horns’ before launching into ‘I Miss The Misery’. Halestorm were the first ‘logo band’ of the day and one of highlights of the weekend. Powering through the heaviest mainstage set of the day, the band certainly gained a few fans with frontwoman Tatiana Shmayluk demanding constant energy from everyone there early. Next up was Ukrainian metalcore outfit Jinjer. Playing a 40 minute set Wolfgang Van Halen lets the crowd know how much he appreciates everyone being there early telling them it’s a dream to be playing at Donington after hearing his fathers ( Eddie Van Halen) stories when he was younger about playing there. Thursday had less bands than every other day but featured a stacked main stage line up which opened with Mammoth WVH. Expanding to four days instead of the usual three, over 100,000 people descended upon Donington for what was an insane four days of music.

We enjoyed this visit so much more than our first because of the pairings plus our host, Jorge and his wonderful explanations of the production and winery philosophy.This past weekend saw Download celebrate its 20 th anniversary with a special edition of the festival. My husband and I had first visited Opus in 2017, and this time brought two couples who are good friends. We enjoyed three vintages plus a glass of overture (a blend of the blends). A less involved tasting is also available….but if you are able the pairing experience is really worth your time.
Views from all angles of the mountains and vineyards are postcard worthy, and the guided tasting is informative and made even more enjoyable by accompanying curated bites. Touring the winery is fascinating and a bit awe inspiring, too. How many wineries make just one wine…but do so with such care and attention that each vintage is better than the last? Conditions with weather obviously impact production, but here there is such focus on creating the best blend possible each year and it shows in the glass. This winery set the bar high for the region when it was first created and it continues to push that bar higher. We were not fond of the chef's selection (crackers and nuts) to accompany our tasting, but that did not detract from our experience in any way.Ī visit to Napa Valley is not complete without a tasting and tour of Opus One. We tasted black cherry and chocolate notes and loved it so much that we purchased a bottle to enjoy on our 40th wedding anniversary next year. Opus One only creates red blend wines and they are very expensive, but worth it because they know how to age and blend delicious and elegant wines.

All of the staff were welcoming and acted in a professional manner, but we were made to feel comfortable throughout the experience. When we arrived early for our tasting, we were worried after seeing the opulent tasting room and beautifully manicured grounds that the place might be too stuffy and pretentious for us. He was very knowledgeable, as you might expect, but in a warm and friendly manner. Our time there was heightened by having Brendon as our specialist. A truly 5 star experience just begins to tell the story of our first visit and wine tasting at Opus One Winery.
